Alcohol Use in Pregnancy in Rural Zambia

The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of alcohol use in pregnancy, associated risk factors and adverse pregnancy outcomes in rural Zambia. Pregnant women in contact with antenatal units in the Mpongwe district over a 12 month period will be asked to participate. Participants will be screened by midwives for alcohol use and pregnancies be monitored. Babies that are much smaller than usual will be assessed for dysmorphology associated with FASD.
