The Prevention and Early Intervention Program at the National Drug Research Institute has been successful in gaining Healthway research funding to conduct the Alcohol and other drugs, mental health and sexual health in ‘partygoing’ youth in regional WA project.
The project aims to investigate the ‘lived experiences’ of the ‘Australian drinking culture’ in partygoing regional youth (18-24 years) in Western Australia in relation to their experiences with alcohol, other drugs, and mental and sexual health to inform prevention and health promotion service provision.
The Research Assistant Position Criteria
Qualifications:
Completion of a relevant degree; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Knowledge, experience and skills:
This position requires a person with direct links to regional WA as the primary role will be to recruit interview participants for the study.
Recruitment of youth for interviews will require specific networks and links to young Australians up to the age of 24 years who have attended multiple country parties and who are part of an intergenerational ‘Aussie’ culture.
Some experience and/or specific education in qualitative research techniques, specifically semi-structured in-depth interviewing and qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews is ideal, although training will be provided.
The position requires an outgoing and forward thinking person who can work autonomously as well as effectively as part of a team.
The position will support the research team with preparation of reports, publications, and presentations.
