This PhD project showed that extended trading for some Perth hotels was associated with increased; violence, drink driver crashes, alcohol consumption and; a shift in the timing of incidents. It suggested that greater numbers of patrons, increased levels of intoxication, a lack of flexibility among other late night services and situational factors specific to some hotels all contributed to the observed increases. The thesis concluded that systematic planning and evaluation of late trading licenses wass required to address this.
