In 2009, the report of an external review of the Alice Springs Alcohol Management Plan was published. The Alice Springs’ People’s Alcohol Action Coalition (PAAC) was concerned at some aspects of the quality of the report, its findings and recommendations and requested NDRI to provide a detailed review of it. The review focused primarily on the recommendations made in the Report in light of the substantial national and international literature available regarding the consumption of alcohol and the harms resulting from the misuse of alcohol, and offered some alternative recommendations based on the available evidence of ‘what works’. The NDRI review was used by PAAC in its on-going efforts to reduce alcohol-related harm in Alice Springs.
