Contribution to major AOD sector event
The National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) made a significant contribution to the 2018 Western Australian Alcohol and Other Drug Conference, a key event for the sector in this state.
Alcohol Policy Program Leader Professor Tanya Chikritzhs delivered the conference’s first plenary address, outlining ‘Why is cancer alcohol’s best kept secret?’, and Associate Professor Rebecca McKetin’s plenary presentation examined ‘The relationship between methamphetamine use and mental health’.
NDRI researchers also contributed to a comprehensive panel discussion addressing translating research into practice, and delivered conference presentations covering topics that ranged from treatment outcomes and use of ‘study drugs’ to a focus on co-drug use and preventing offending in Aboriginal communities.
In addition, NDRI researchers contributed electronic and printed posters for the conference, with the ‘How to critically analyse AOD related media’ e-poster, contributed by NDRI Adjuncts Nicole Lee and Stephen Bright, winning the award for best e-poster.
Held in Perth on 20-21 March 2018, the ‘Leading the way: Embracing new opportunities in the alcohol and other drug sector conference’ was hosted by the Mental Health Commission and the WA Network of Alcohol and Other Drug Agencies and attracted around 500 participants over two days.
