The Addiction Studies Unit and the National Centre are collaborating on a prospective study in which smoking, drinking, exposure to promotions and attitudes to smoking will be monitored in two cohorts of 750 school children - one in WA and the other in NSW. This will be over a three year period during which restrictions on tobacco promotions are being introduced incrementally in Western Australia, but it is not anticipated they will be in New South Wales. The first year of data collection has been completed with funds from the WA Health Department. The next three waves of data collection in WA are being funded by the WA Health Promotion Foundation.
