This action research project funded by a major mining company aims to measure, understand and reduce the level of alcohol related harm experienced at a remote mining worksite and the surrounding community. The project includes a comprehensive health screening program conducted in both the intervention and control worksites to gather individual data on a range of general health and alcohol related measures. The intention is to follow this with a community based harm minimisation intervention comprising education, health promotion, and structural change activities aimed at altering community norms regarding alcohol use.
