This project aims to collect information on risk behaviours and knowledge and attitudes to sex from a sample of 2,400 Australian prisoners. The study is being conducted in both NSW and Queensland and has two components: a large quantitative survey (n=2,400) using a standard questionnaire and a series of in-depth interviews with selected prisoners. A telephone interview method is being used to screen prisoners in NSW and Qld correctional centres. The project is modelled on the recent Australian Study of Health and Relationships which interviewed 19,000 people in the community.
