WEDNESDAY 22 October: 2pm AEDT, 11am AWST
Online
Presenters:
- Dr Shelley Walker, National Drug Research Institute
- Dr Michael Curtis, National Drug Research Institute
- Professor Rebecca McKetin, National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre
Methamphetamine is one of the most used substances among people who have contact with Australia’s criminal legal system. However, our understanding of the experiences and drivers of criminal legal system involvement for people who use methamphetamine is limited.
In this webinar, Shelley will present findings of a qualitative study about the harms associated with the criminalisation of methamphetamine use on rural Victorians who smoke methamphetamine and Michael will present on the incidence and correlates of imprisonment in a cohort of Victorians who smoke methamphetamine. Rebecca will then provide a brief update of the evidence for treating methamphetamine use disorder, including progress towards pharmacotherapy options and innovations in other evidence-based treatment options.
