NDRI Seminar: Drug trends in WA - Findings from the 2018 IDRS and EDRS

Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) – James Fetherston

The IDRS is an annual survey, carried out in each jurisdiction of Australia, of people who regularly inject drugs, with a view to monitoring evolving trends. In this seminar, data obtained from the 2018 Perth sample will be presented, covering the frequency of use of illicit drugs such as heroin, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, pharmaceutical opiates and cannabis, as well as trends in their price, purity and availability over the years.

Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS) – Jodie Grigg

The EDRS is the sister project of the IDRS, and focuses on monitoring trends in ecstasy and other 'party drug' use. In this seminar, findings from the WA arm of the EDRS will be presented, with a focus on key trends observed in 2018.

About the speakers

James Fetherston has been with the National Drug Research Institute since 2001, primarily working on the IDRS but also on community attitudes to cannabis decriminalisation, recalcitrant drink drivers, and injection of drugs in Australian prison environments.

Jodie Grigg joined the National Drug Research Institute in 2010. She currently works as a Research Associate, coordinating the WA arm of EDRS, and is in the final phases of her PhD titled ‘A mixed-methods study of drug use at outdoor music festivals in Western Australia and Victoria’.
