  • Research program: Ethnographic Research
  • Project status: Completed
  • Start date: February 2006
  • Expected end date: August 2008
  • Completion date: November 2010
  • Funded by: Australian National Council on Drugs
  • Lead organisation:

The aim of this project is to assess the extent and nature of alcohol and other drug (AOD) problems among homeless persons in Australia in order to develop a set of guidelines for assessing, managing, and engaging with people who are homeless and have AOD problems. To this end, a comprehensive literature evaluation and consultation process will be undertaken and a best practice ‘Resource Kit’ produced for distribution to homeless agencies and organisations to assist them in their management of AOD problems among the homeless. As a special project initiated by ANCD, the outcomes of this project are envisaged to have far-reaching benefits for addressing AOD issues amongst the Australian homeless population and thereby improving health outcomes in this population group.
