Dr Nico Clark is Head of Addiction Medicine Services at Royal Melbourne Hospital and Clinical Director, of the First Step Clinic.

He is a Member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Mental Health & Substance Use -Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for The Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) and has recent or ongoing consultancies with WHO, UNODOC, PATH Frontline AIDS and the Governments of Fiji and Pakistan.

Dr Clark is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor (Honorary) at the Monash University Addiction Research Centre and a Principal Fellow (Honorary) at the Burnet Institute. He has published over 80 publications. His areas of research include:

  • Interventions for the treatment of substance-use disorders (in particular opioid, alcohol, and stimulant use disorders) and common comorbidities (HCV, ADHD, oral health)
  • Design of services for the management of substance use disorders and related conditions, including simplified and integrated models of care, as well as delivery in low threshold settings
