Reforming Australia’s Opioid Dependence Treatment Program

Opioid dependence remains a significant public health challenge in Australia, contributing to premature morbidity, mortality, and social harms. Opioid agonist treatment (OAT) is Australia’s frontline treatment for opioid dependence and is delivered via Australia’s Opioid Dependence Treatment Program (ODTP).

Australia’s ODTP has undergone major transformations in the past decade. Understanding the impact of the ODTP reforms is critical for optimizing treatment delivery and informing future policy directions.
