The national prison entrants' bloodborne virus and risk behaviour survey was conducted in October 2010. The aims of the survey are 1) to collect blood borne virus information (hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV) on prison entrants and 2) to collect risk behaviour (drug use, tatooing and risky sexual behaviour) information. The findings are vital to ongoing efforts to highlight the importance of this group (prisoners) to the national blood borne virus picture and to encourage the jurisdictions to provide comprehensive treatment services for hepatitis C.
