It is hypothesised by the authors that community knowledge of the term 'standard drink' and awareness of standard serving sizes and per cent alcohol content for typical Australian drinks will be poor. If so, this has implications for the collection of accurate alcohol consumption data and for the effectiveness of education programs promoting safe and responsible drinking.
