  • Expected end date: August 1999
  • Completion date: November 1999
  • Funded by: Health Department of Western Australia
  • Lead organisation:

This project was conducted in response to an application to the Western Australian Director of Liquor Licensing for an additional liquor licence in the town of Kunnunnura. The application was opposed by the Kununurra-Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation and by the Health Department of Western Australia. The project was conducted in support of those organisations. It included review of the literature and analyses of data on alcohol consumption, related harm, and intervention measures - both internationally and locally. These data demonstrated that there was likely to be an increase in consumption and related harm if the licence was granted. Following an appeal to the Liquor Licensing Court the application was rejected.
